Description
ent-15-oxo-kaur-16-en-19-oic acid is a natural diterpenoid derivative that can be found in medicinal plants including Xylopia species, Espeletia grandiflora, etc. It is structurally related to kaurenoic acid.
This compound has demonstrated notable cytotoxic and proapoptotic effects on human prostate carcinoma epithelial cell line PC-3, with an IC50 of 3.7 μg/mL, which is significantly lower (more potent) than its effect on primary fibroblast cells (IC50 = 14.8 μg/mL).
Mechanistically, it induces apoptosis as evidenced by:
- Activation of caspase-3 and cleavage of PARP.
- Reduction in antiapoptotic Bcl-2 protein levels.
- Induction of internucleosomal DNA fragmentation
