Description
Broussoflavonol F is a prenylated flavonoid that has been isolated from Macaranga gigantea, Macaranga indica, Macaranga inermis, Broussonetia papyrifera, and stingless bee propolis.
Broussoflavonol F (BFF) exhibits cytotoxicity against colon cancer cell lines, induces apoptosis, and causes cell cycle arrest at G0/G1. It suppresses proliferation by downregulating HER2, RAS, p-BRAF, p-MEK, and p-Erk proteins. In vivo, BFF reduces tumor growth and angiogenesis markers in mice and zebrafish models, acting via the HER2-RAS-MEK-ERK pathway. In obese mice, BFF reduces body weight, adipose tissue mass, and serum lipid levels, improves glucose tolerance, and restores gut microbiota diversity. Its effects are gut microbiota-dependent. Broussoflavonol F, among other flavonoids, is effective against several oral bacteria, suggesting potential for oral health products.
